Erie County Legislator Lynn M. Marinelli (D-Buffalo, Tonawanda) announces that the Visiting Nurses Association of WNY Inc. will hold a flu and pneumonia vaccination from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, at the Ellwood Fire Hall, 1000 Englewood Avenue, Kenmore.
“I recommend that people who want to be immunized from the flu and pneumonia take advantage of this,” Legislator Marinelli said. “While most people do not underestimate the seriousness of pneumonia, they may not realize that while most people suffer from the flu for a few days, about 36,000 Americans each year from the flu.”
The flu and pneumonia immunization clinics are for people age 9 and older for flu shots and age 19 and older for pneumonia shots if Centers for Disease Control criteria are met. Participants under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
The cost of the immunization program, which is $30 for the flu vaccine, $40 for FluMist and $60 for the pneumonia vaccine, is covered by most major insurance plans; people are responsible to the VNA for ant charges not covered by their insurance. The fees will benefit the VNA Charity Home Care program and can be paid by check or cash.
