Erie County Legislator Lynn M. Marinelli (D-Buffalo, Tonawanda) announced that the County Legislature Health and Human Services Committee recently approved funding for several groups offering adult-supervised environments as part of the Summer 2012 Operation Primetime Program in District 3, which she represents.
The funding approved by the committee, if approved by the full Legislature, will go to these five entities in District 3: Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northtowns, $10,000; North Buffalo CDC, $6,000; Northwest Buffalo Community Center, $10,000; Town of Tonawanda Recreation Department, $8,000; University District CDC, $6,000. These groups are among 49 being funded for $400,000 this summer under Operation Primetime, out of 56 who applied.
“These outstanding organizations are receiving funds to provide productive, structured recreational activities to help prevent delinquency, increase youth socialization and stay involved this summer,” Legislator Marinelli said. “This is a successful 10-week school summer-recess that many residents of District 3 have taken advantage of over the years. I am proud that about 25,000-26,000 children countywide are expected to take advantage of this program.”
