Erie County Legislator Lynn M. Marinelli (D-Buffalo, Tonawanda) announced that funding for infrastructure and related work at the Black Rock Canal Park in Buffalo was included in the 2012 bond projects resolution that was passed unanimously by the County Legislature at its March 29 session.
The Legislature approved $300,000 in bond funds for the Park, formerly known as the Ontario Street Boat Launch and Cornelius Creek Park. With Niagara River Greenway and other New York state funding sources included, the project will total over $1 million.
“This is an exciting, well-deserved project and park improvement in the Black Rock and Riverside neighborhoods of Buffalo, and I am proud to have sponsored the bond funding for this work,” said Marinelli. “On behalf of this district, I thank County Executive Mark Poloncarz for supporting this effort.”
The Erie County Department of Environment and planning will start the project by summer; the design should be finished in two months and then go to bid. It is hoped that the project will be substantially complete by the end of the summer. Phase One of the project will include Northern access improvements, including removal and replacement of the existing park road as well as landscaping from Ontario Street to near the pedestrian bridge in the northern sector of the park.
