County Legislature Committee Accepts Domestic Violence Grant, Expands Services

                The Erie County Legislature Health and Human Services Committee unanimously authorized the Department of Social Services to enter or amend contracts to expand non-residential services to domestic violence victims at its September 24 meeting.

                The committee, chaired by Majority Leader Thomas J. Mazur (D-Buffalo, Cheektowaga) granted the administration of County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz permission to enter or amend contacts with Child and Family Services, Crisis Services, Hispanics United and the Family Justice Center for a total of $58,033 to expand their non-residential services to domestic violence victims. The funds come from a federal Temporary Assistance to Needy Families grant and no local funds are being increased.

                Other members of the Health and Human Services Committee include Legislator Timothy R. Hogues (D-Buffalo), vice chair, and Legislator Lynn M. Marinelli (D-Buffalo, Tonawanda).
