Legislator Barbara Miller-Williams Calls on NFTA to Establish a Veterans Reduced Fare Program

Legislator Miller-Williams

Buffalo, NY- First District Erie County Legislator Barbara Miller-Williams (D-Buffalo) announces that legislation has been introduced and unanimously passed, asking that Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) provide Erie County Veterans with a reduced fare option to travel in the Metro system. The program would allow Veterans to apply for the reduced fare program and would also allow a Veteran to show their Veteran ID Card to a NFTA Metro operator and be eligible for a reduced fare.

Legislator Barbara Miller-Williams, working with Former Legislator and NFTA Metro Operator Daniel M. Kozub, introduced the Resolution and is calling on NFTA Board of Commissioners to consider the measure at their next Board Meeting in October. A similar program was established by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada in May of 2015 and has encouraged rider usage and enhanced access to affordable and reliable transportation for thousands of Veterans who live in that region.
