On September 6, 2018, the Erie County Legislature approved, by a bi-partisan vote, a proclamation supporting the annual New York State Sheriffs Week. The proclamation commemorates the annual Sheriffs' Week, which is a week-long event starting on September 16-22, 2018. The proclamation recognizes the law enforcement contributions made by Sheriff Personnel across New York State.
The proclamation is an annual occurrence, conducted by county legislative bodies. The intent of the proclamation is meant to recognize the hard-working law enforcement professionals in the Erie County Sheriff’s Office regardless of the many policy or political differences that may exist
Yesterday, a series of social media posts falsely depicted the actions of the Erie County Legislature which claimed that the proclamation was an “award” to an individual. In fact, the sole intent was to recognize law enforcers and public officers for their works and contributions in protecting the public.
