June 2016 Column - Be mindful of road crews as more projects are getting underway

In Erie County, summer means road work, hot dog roasts and this year, Charter Review. Anyone who has been out driving knows that state, county and local road and bridge projects are underway. Yes, detours and delays can be frustrating but above all the safety of the crews is number one. Please be mindful of road crews, slow down and abide by all posted signage.

I want to thank the County’s Department of Public Works engineers and Town of Collins Supervisor David Tessmer who recently joined me for another road tour. Representing some of the most rural parts of the county, it is important we continue to monitor these roads to ensure they are safe today and into the future. With 1,200 lane miles to maintain, it is not an easy task so constantly touring, checking road conditions is critical.

I am hoping that the nice weather we had this past weekend returns on the dates of the 2016 Hot Dog Roast Fundraisers. This is the 10th year I have partnered with the library branches in my district to fund raise, raising more than $57,700 over the years. I hope you will join us for these great events. Hot dog and water is only $1, and Italian sausage and water is $2. Many thanks to Sahlen’s who provides the grill for these events.

Also, the county is in the process of reviewing and proposing changes to the County Charter. You can review the recommendations by CLICKING HERE and if you wish to comment on any, please email the Clerk of the Legislature at Karen.mccarthy@erie.gov. Once the final recommendations are approved by the Legislature and the County Executive, they will be put on the November ballot where residents will decide.
