Legislator Mills announces funding for Scenic Byway

Erie County Legislator John Mills announces that the Legislature has approved his request for $5,000 for the WNY Southtowns Scenic Byway (WNYSSB), which will be used to purchase and install a new informational sign in the Village of Springville. Legislator Mills prioritized the funding in the 2017 Erie County budget, recognizing the important of the Byway’s efforts to bring tourism to southern Erie County.

“The Scenic Byway has been working extremely hard for many years now to promote tourism and local businesses, while educating the public on our region’s history. I want to thank for colleagues for supporting this funding request, and can assure them the money will be well spent to benefit our community,” said Legislator Mills.

“We are extremely grateful to Erie County Legislature Chairman John Mills and Erie County for their latest financial support. They have been key supporters to this scenic byway since its inception in 2008. The WNYSSB is a 108 mile NYSDOT authorized route that traverses Erie and Cattaraugus Counties. It is an important proponent of tourism,” said Bob Lennartz, the President of the WNYSSB.

The funding was added into the 2017 budget without raising the bottom line, in fact the Legislature lowered the property tax rate. The Legislators encourage the County Executive to support the funding.
