Legislator Mills helps to promote Scenic Byway

Erie County Legislature Minority Leader John J. Mills, R-Orchard Park, is encouraging residents to explore the elegant scenery of the fall season in the Southtowns.

The Western New York Southtowns Scenic Byway map is available online at www.wnyssb.org. The map has ideas for those looking for a fall weekend getaway from Orchard Park to Springville and all points in between. With recent temperatures in the 70s, Legislator Mills said prime fall foliage viewing time is just about here. And there isn’t a better spot in Western New York to view the striking mosaic of the changing leaves than along the byway.

“Whether it’s a ride along Routes 240 or 219, or a stop in historic East Aurora or Orchard Park, there’s no better time to visit the Southtowns than right now,” Legislator Mills said. “The Western New York Southtowns Scenic Byway map is a great tool for those looking for ways to take advantage of these attractions. I encourage my constituents to download or pick up a copy.”

Bob Lennartz, president of the Western New York Southtowns Scenic Byway, said that with this weekend’s unusually sunny and warm temperatures, chores like lawn mowing and shrub trimming can, and should, wait.

“It’s not time to rake the leaves, it’s time to go out and see the leaves. It’s time to pick out a pumpkin, buy some cookies or drink some cider,” Lennartz said. “We in the Southtowns have three of the best parks in the area. It’s a perfect time for photography, hiking or sightseeing.”

For more information, residents are also encouraged to visit their local town or village hall for a map, or can visit the Byway’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/scenicbyway.
