Erie County Legislature approves maintenance agreement for old 219 bridge

Erie County Legislature Chairman John J. Mills announces that the Erie County Legislature approved the memorandum authorizing the county to enter into a maintenance agreement with the New York State Department of Transportation for the former US Route 219 bridge that connects Erie and Cattaraugus counties. The approval came one day after the Cattaraugus County Legislature approved the contract. As a result, the counties will take over ownership of the bridge for the next 75 years with continued financial support from NYS.

June 2015 Column - Spotlight on Erie County’s farming community

Earlier this week Erie County and the Southtowns Coalition hosted a Southtowns Farm Tour to promote local agriculture and provide an update on local happenings in the farming community. My district is rich with farm land that produces an abundance of crops annually, in addition to the farms located throughout the rest of Erie County. The tour highlighted just a few of the many farms and growers located here, providing insightful information.

Erie County Legislator Mills to host Boston Library Fundraiser on June 11

Erie County Legislator John J. Mills announces that the Boston Free Library Hot Dog Roast Fundraiser will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at the library, 9475 Boston State Rd., Boston. Hot dog and water is $1 and Italian sausage and water is $2. All proceeds benefit the library.

Legislators accept Homeland Security grant for Sheriff’s Office to protect waterfront

Erie County Legislators John Mills, Lynne Dixon and Kevin Hardwick, whose districts border waterfronts, along with Legislator Ted Morton, whose district includes the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, announce that the Legislature has taken the necessary steps to receive a State of New York Office of Homeland Security grant totaling $75,169 to increase security of the international border along the Niagara River and Lake Erie. The grant will be utilized by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, which patrols seven days a week/24 hours a day during boating season.
