Erie County Legislator John Mills sponsored a resolution to celebrate National Nurses Week and recognize their part in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. There are more than 15,000 registered nurses, 1,300 nurse practitioners and 4,500 licensed practical nurses from Erie County.

National Nurses Week is celebrated annually to thank the individuals who demonstrate compassion and kindness and deliver quality care to patients on a day-to-day basis. For over a year, nurses have been working on the frontlines of the pandemic and going above and beyond to ensure the well-being of our friends, family, colleagues, neighbors and acquaintances.

Legislator Mills said, “Nurses are earth angels sent to help individuals when they need it the most. Those of us who do not work in healthcare will never be able to understand what nurses have seen, felt and have gone through during the pandemic. Even though thank you doesn’t seem to be enough—thank you, nurses, you are heroes and we will never forget the incredible work you have done and continue to do.”
