Erie County Legislator John Mills recently honored three members of the Springville Volunteer Fire Department; Paul Smith, James Siminski and Thomas Salzler.

Paul Smith has been named recipient of the 2021 Springville Volunteer Fire Department’s Chief’s Appreciation Award. Smith has served as a valued member of the Springville Volunteer Fire Department for the past 42 years. Smith is currently the department Fire Captain and has held the positions of Fire Chief First, Fire Chief Second and Fire Chief Third, Assistant Chief, Junior Fire Captain and Fire Lieutenant and as an interior firefighter.

James Siminski has served with the Springville and Concord Volunteer Fire Departments for 42.5 years. Siminski is a lifelong resident of Concord and the Village of Springville and first began his career as a firefighter at the age of 18 and has served the department in many roles including Fire Captain, Fire Chief First, Fire Chief Second, and Fire Chief Third, Assistant Chief, Junior Fire Captain and Fire Lieutenant.

Thomas Salzler has served with the Springville Volunteer Fire Department for 49 years. Salzler is a lifelong resident of the Village of Springville and has served the community for nearly five decades beginning his career as a firefighter in 1972. Salzler has served the department as Chief, Assistant Chief One, Assistant Chief Two and as an interior firefighter.

Legislator Mills said, “Thank you to Paul Smith, James Siminski and Thomas Salzler for decades of selfless service to the Springville and Concord communities. Your continued commitment and dedication to serving and protecting those around you does not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated by many.”
