Erie County Legislator John Mills recognized Erie County Sheriff’s Deputies John Dunn and Shane Miller as Erie County Legislature December 2019 Citizens of the Month. Deputies Dunn and Miller were recently awarded the Governor’s Certificate of Exceptional Valor after they confronted an armed assailant outside a Springville convenience store on August 5, 2018.

Deputies Dunn and Miller responded to a call reporting a man with a sawed-off shotgun at the Country Fair convenience store in Springville. After they confronted the suspect outside, he refused to drop his weapon and advanced toward the Sheriff’s Deputies. The deputies then discharged their pistols striking the suspect. Because of their actions, 12 people inside the store were unharmed.

Legislator Mills said, “Deputies Dunn and Miller are heroes.  Their brave actions and swift response helped defuse a situation that could have turned deadly in a matter of seconds. It is an honor to recognize Deputies Dunn and Miller as Erie County Citizens of the Month and thank them for their service. We are extremely grateful for the first responders who go above and beyond to keep our communities safe.”
