Following Governor Cuomo’s announcement that bars and restaurants can only serve alcohol with the sale of food items, Erie County Legislator John Mills voted in favor of a resolution opposing the new guidelines.

Legislator Mills said, “Small businesses, including bars and restaurants, are struggling due to the financial impact of COVID-19. Most of these local establishments are now working hard to make sure they comply with the guidelines to keep customers safe. New York State should be looking to help them, not hurt them with these arbitrary and constantly-changing executive orders.”

The resolution passed during the most recent session of the Erie County Legislature Thursday, July 23. However, Democrats in the Legislature voted against a section of the resolution that directed the County Attorney to challenge Governor Cuomo in court.

“It’s a shame my colleagues across the aisle will not take a stand against Governor Cuomo and this most recent overreach,” Legislator Mills added. “My colleagues in the Minority Caucus and I will continue to press forward in support of small business owners.”
