NOTICE: Due to filming restrictions and road closures from the movie shooting in the Village of Akron the Newstead Public Library will be offering extended hours on Sat. July 20th & Sun July 21st from 11:00am-1:00pm.

Access to the library may be limited during the upcoming movie filming July 9th - July 26th.  You may have to access the library through the Akron Fire Co parking lot rear access to the lower level parking behind the village hall and library and come in the back door.

Lawn Game Library

Having a picnic or party?  The library is loaning out Kan Jam, Bocce Ball, Cornhole, Giant Jenga, Croquet, Badminton and Spike Ball.  All games can be borrowed for 7 days.

 

Read Down Your Fines 2019!!

Boys and Girls 16 and under can read down fines from their library card this summer.  Please stop in the library for details.

 

 

Summer Independent Reading has Started!

Boys and girls 12 and under can read for prizes this summer.  Stop by the library to pick up your reading record.

 

Teen Ticket to Read!

Teens, 13 and up, pick up a ticket to read for each book you read this summer and be entered into a prize drawing.

 

Toddler Jumpbunch

Build fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination with brightly colored balls and simple toys.  Parents are encouraged to participate!

Ages 15 months – 3 years

2nd and 4th Friday’s of the month at 11:30 am – 12:15 pm

 

T’ai Chi Chih with Denise Miller

T’ai Chi Chih movements are practiced softly with no impact.  No particular level of fitness, coordination or special clothing required.  Denise Miller is an accredited T’ai Chi Chih teacher who had been sharing this wonderful practice with students for 6 years.

Battle of the Books – Weekly Meetings

Battle of the Books is a fun reading trivia program for students entering grades 6 -9 in September.  Weekly meetings will be held on Wednesdays at 2 pm.

 

Around the Campfire with Susan Rozler

“Susie the Barge Deck Swabber” shares songs and stories of the workers and passengers building and traveling the Erie Canal.  Using song and instruments, Susie will get everyone singing and dancing!  This program is made possible through a grant from the New York State Regional Economic Council, NYS Council on the Arts, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
