Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Survey and Detection Training
Emery | 2084 Emery Road | South Wales, NY 14139 | 10:30 AM-1:00 PM | Fieldhouse
The Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) is a hugely important tree species upon which entire ecosystems depend. This species provides stream habitat for trout species, creates habitat for countless native plant and animal species, and enhances any outdoor recreation experience. Unfortunately, these majestic trees are under attack from the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA), an invasive, aphid-like insect. Slowing the spread of HWA is the most important way we can help preserve our hemlock forests. The early detection of emerging infestations is a great way to do this, but we need volunteers like you to help! This event will feature an indoor education event, then we will head outside to learn to survey for and indentify Hemlock Woolly Adelgid in the field. Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather and wear warm, sturdy footwear. ***Please register in advance*** Questions can be directed to WNY PRISM at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling (716) 878-4708.
