Smoke Free Parks

The Department of Parks, Recreation & Forestry teamed up with the Erie-Niagara Tobacco-Free Coalition and implemented a "Smoke Free" policy (including electroning cigarettes and "vaping") in 2012 for all parks, beaches and recreation areas. Smoking is responsible for the premature deaths of over 430,000 Americans each year from lung cancer, heart disease and respiratory illness among other diseases. Tobacco related litter is one of the single largest sources of litter in our parks and recreation areas and much of it is not biodegradable. Tobacco litter contains poisons from the burned tobacco that are harmful to people, wildlife and pets.

Please help keep Erie County Parks smoke free!
