On Veterans Day, Erie County Legislator Ed Rath attended a dedication for a new roadside marker honoring Major General Dennis E. Nolan.

General Nolan was born in 1872 in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1892 followed by West Point in 1896. Following his education, General Nolan had a successful military career, serving in World War I, the Spanish American War and the Philippine Insurrection.  He received numerous awards and honors founded the U.S. Army Intelligence Service.

“We are thankful for the brave individuals like General Nolan who served our country and for those who continue to serve,” said Legislator Rath. “General Nolan is a distinguished veteran and this is a tremendous tribute on behalf of his hometown.”

The new marker is located on the grounds of General Nolan’s former home on East Avenue in Akron.
