Senior Services' Stay Fit Dining Program Now Offering Weekend Frozen Meals

Senior Services’ Stay Fit Dining Program
Now Offering Weekend Frozen Meals

The Stay Fit Dining Program operates 44 dining sites throughout Erie County providing approximately 380,000 nutritious meals a year to older adults. We are proud to announce our newest program to assist seniors the Weekend Frozen Meal. Michael Saccomanno, Program Director states the following, “This program has been implemented to fit the continuous need of individuals who want or need the convenience of one of our healthy meals for the weekend. We know many seniors may have difficulty preparing a nutritious meal daily. The New Weekend Meals are designed and planned by the program’s Registered Dieticians. The meals meet the 1/3 daily recommendation for older adult nutrition, As we all know, some seniors can’t get out for grocery shopping as often as they like due to transportation difficulties. Many of the seniors desire the meals because of the affordable cost which off set other necessary expenses they have. The New Weekend Meals will make it easy, convenient, and affordable to maintain good nutrition everyday of the week”.

Once the participant is enrolled, they are required to attend a mandatory training conducted by a Registered Dietitian on how to properly handle the meal. Our participants have the opportunity to order up to 2 frozen meals for the weekend, or 3 meals for a long holiday weekend. It is recommended that meals orders are made a week in advance. The participant is able to choose from our menu of five delicious and well-balanced meals which include Beef Stuffed Cabbage Roll, Polish Sausage with Sauerkraut, Breaded Chicken Drumsticks, Omelet, and Cheese Manicotti with Meatballs as the main entrée; a true choice.  All meals come with vegetables, roll or bread, dessert and 1% milk to ensure proper nutrition.  A confidential donation of $2.75 is suggested, and EBT or Food Stamp benefits can be used.

Originally rolled out at three sites, the program is quickly expanding, and currently is available at almost 30 sites.  Call 858-7639, or ask your site manager.
