ASTUTE NEIGHBOR HELPS DETECTIVES SOLVE BURGLARY CASE IN ELMA
Buffalo, NY- Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard is announcing the arrest Wednesday of 33 year old Bryan Colon of Niagara Street, Buffalo, on the following charges: Burglary- a C felony; and Grand Larceny a D felony. Detectives believe Colon is responsible for burglarizing a 79 year old man’s home on North Davis Road in Elma early last month.
More than $7,400.00 worth of cash and valuables were taken in a brazen day time burglary on September 7,th that was help solved in part by a concerned neighbor of the victim. He noticed an unfamiliar man walking from the victim’s backyard into a car parked in the victim’s driveway. The neighbor took the suspicious vehicle’s plate number and description of the car and called 911.
Deputies arrived on the scene soon afterwards and found a smashed back sliding glass door broken and the house appearing to have been gone through; the victim’s safe with cash and valuables was missing. With the information the inquisitive neighbor gave them, detectives were able to trace the suspicious vehicle to the suspect, Bryan Colon. Over the course of the next few days, Erie County Sheriff’s Office detectives twice went to arrest the suspect at his Niagara Street apartment, however the first time, Colon was able to elude authorities by jumping out a back second floor window and running away.
Yesterday, October 3rd, 2012, Detectives Christian Parisi; Scott Piel, Brian O’Hara; Tim Donovan, Jack Graham and Deputy Adam Imiolo went back to arrest Colon at his Niagara Shoreline apartment. Colon once again tried to jump out the back window, but this time he was apprehended by the detectives.
The victim’s stolen goods have not yet been recovered; the investigation continues.
Colon is expected to be arraigned this evening on the charges in Elma Town Court.
