February 28, 2012- Village of Gowanda; Town of Grand Island- Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard reports the arrests of a Cattaraugus woman and a Grand Island man for DWI.
Deputy Ben Pisa stopped a car on Buffalo Street in Gowanda for having an obstructed view. During the course of the traffic stop it became apparent that the driver of the vehicle, 26 year old Amanda Battaglia of Cattaraugus, was intoxicated. Battaglia was arrested for DWI and taken to the Sheriff's substation where a breath test revealed that she had a .12% BAC. Battaglia was additionally charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance when she was found to be in possession of a number of what appeared to be hydrocodone pills. She was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Village of Gowanda Court.
On Bedell Road on Grand Island, Deputy Daniel Milbrandt stopped a car driven by 44 year old Murugam Arumugam for failing to keep right. Further investigation revealed that Arumugam was intoxicated. He was taken to the Sheriff's substation where a breath test revealed that he had a .16% BAC. Arumugam, a Grand Island resident, was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.
