Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the early morning arrest of a Collins man for DWI who was travelling through the Seneca Nation Reservation.
Seneca Nation Marshals were patrolling on Rt. 438 near Bush Rd. when they observed a vehicle stop in the roadway and the driver and passenger each got out and scrambled in an attempt to switch positions in the vehicle. Upon further investigation by the Marshals, they discovered the original driver was intoxicated.
Erie County Sheriff's Deputy Dan Harris and a Gowanda Police Officer responded to the scene. On arrival and upon further interview and field sobriety tests, it was discovered that the original driver, 19 year old Nathan D. Crassi of Erie Ave. in the Town of Collins, was intoxicated.
Crassi was arrested by Deputy Harris and charged with DWI; he subsequently refused all further testing. His vehicle was towed from the scene and he was later released to a third party on appearance tickets for the Town of Collins Court at a later date.
This was the 117th DWI arrest by the Erie County Sheriff's Road Patrol this year.
