Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard announced today the arrest of Erie County employee Randy Rettig after a several month long investigation for narcotics and theft of county property.
Rettig was arrested this morning following a traffic stop by Deputy Simon Biegasiewicz for driving while under the influence of drugs as well as various vehicle and traffic violations. After a search of Rettig’s vehicle, Deputies discovered county property and cocaine. At that point Deputies charged Rettig with petit larceny, possession of stolen property and criminal procession of a controlled substance.
A Senior Computer Programmer with the county’s Department of Information and Support Services, Rettig was immediately placed on administrative leave by County Executive Mark Poloncarz pending a full investigation.
Rettig was transported to the Erie County Holding Center where he awaits arraignment in Buffalo City Court followed by an appearance in Amherst town court.
Erie County Sheriff’s Detectives are continuing their investigation of Rettig and further charges are possible.
