January 29, 2012- Town of Clarence- Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard reports the arrest of an Amherst man on multiple charges following complaints from a Walmart store that the subject was opening packages of merchandise and trying to steal the contents.
Erie County Sheriff's Deputies Chris Ginnane and Scott Kuhlmey responded to the Walmart on Transit Road for a complaint from the store that a man was currently in the store, cutting open packages of merchandise and attempting to hide them on his person to steal them. Deputies located the subject, 27 year old Jay T. Kenneth of Amherst, in the store and apprehended him quickly. Further investigation and review of store video tape clearly showed Kenneth's actions; he also had some prescription medication on his person that did not belong to him.
Kenenth was arrested and subsequently charged with criminal mischief 4th degree; criminal possession of a controlled substance
7th degree; attempted petit larceny and possession of a controlled substance outside of an original container.
Kenneth was taken to the Erie County Holding Center and held pending his arraignment in the Town of Court.
