DEPUTY OBSERVES INMATE AND HIS FIANCEE EXCHANGE CONTRABAND DURING MARRIAGE COUNSELING SESSION AT HOLDING CENTER

September 28, 2012- Buffalo, NY- Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard is announcing the arrest of an already incarcerated inmate at the Erie County Holding Center on new charges including a (D) felony - possession of dangerous contraband in prison; criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use- (A) misdemeanor; and unlawful possession of marijuana (violation).

47 year old Charles Allaway, of Landon Street, Buffalo, and his 52 year old fiancée, Nadine Lawrence, also of the same address, were observed Thursday morning hugging in one of the Holding Center’s attorney rooms in which their marriage counseling session was taking place.  (The two had planned to wed at the Holding Center at a later date and marriage counseling is a prerequisite to achieve that end).

During the hug, a deputy noticed Allaway receiving a paper from Lawrence wrapped in electrical tape containing a razor blade; marijuana; plastic bag; a match; and rolling papers.

Nadine Lawrence was charged with a (D) felony- introducing dangerous contraband into prison; criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use (A) misdemeanor; and unlawful possession of marijuana (violation).

Both were arraigned at Buffalo City Court this morning with a return date of October 4, 2012.

Allaway was originally incarcerated on two assault charges out of Buffalo; he remains jailed.   Lawrence is also at the Holding Center on her charges.  Her bail was set at $5,000.00 cash or bond.
