DWI AND DWAI IN CHEEKTOWAGA AND WEST SENECA


SUBJECT:     DWI Arrest and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs Arrest                       

  February 29, 2012 - Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of a Youngstown, NY man for Driving While Intoxicated and a Buffalo, NY man for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. 

Deputies Okal and Harris observed a vehicle on Genesee St. in Cheektowaga speeding.  This vehicle was operated by 51 year old Peter Ventry of of Youngstown, NY.  During the subsequent traffic stop, Mr. Ventry was found to be intoxicated, and he was placed under arrest and brought to the Sheriff’s Clarence substation where a chemical breath test was administered.  The test revealed a BAC of .16%, twice the legal limit.  Upon further investigation, Mr. Ventry was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, a felony.  Numerous other vehicle & traffic violations were also charged.  Mr. Ventry was taken to the Erie Co. Holding Center on bail.  The driver will appear in the Town of Cheektowaga Justice Court at a later date.

Deputies Szkatulski and Nietzel  stopped a vehicle operated by 31 year old Fernando Maldonado after observing the vehicle fail to obey a traffic control device on Seneca St. in West Seneca.  Mr. Maldonado was placed under arrest for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and refused to submit to any drug recognition tests or any other chemical test.  Mr. Maldonado was also charged with several other vehicle and traffic charges including unlicensed operation.   He was then taken to the Town of West Seneca Justice Court for arraignment.  Bail was set and Mr. Maldonado was taken to the Erie Co. Holding Center.
