September 13, 2013- Sheriff Tim Howard is announcing the arrest of a Town of Cheektowaga man just after 1:00 a.m. early this morning. Deputy John Szczepanski, of the Erie County Sheriff's Elma Sub-Station, was on routine patrol on Clinton St. in the Town of Elma. The deputy was westbound, just west of Bowen Rd. when he observed that the vehicle in front of him was weaving and drove over the fog line. A traffic stop was initiated, during which the driver exibited signs of intoxication. Several field sobriety tests were administered, and failed, and due to this the driver was placed under arrest. Arrested was Ryan A. Manuella, age 20, of Lloyd Dr.
Mr. Manuella did submit to a breath test, and did register a .14% B.A.C. (Blood Alcohol Content), almost twice the legal limit. In addition to the Driving While Intoxicated charge, he was charged with failing to keep right, and an inspection violation.
Mr. Manuella was released to a third party pending his arraignment in the Town of Elma Court on a future date. A passenger in the vehicle was charged with having an open container, and was also released. Deputy Szczpanski was assisted with the arrest by Deputy Rich O'neil.
The vehicle was towed and a 12 hour hold was placed on it.
This is the 221st. arrest of the year for D.W.I. made by the Erie County Sheriff's Office.
