February 19, 2012 - Sheriff Tim Howard reports two overnight DWI arrests in the Towns of Grand Island and Clarence.

Deputy John Hanna was travelling northbound on the I 190 on Grand Isand when he observed a vehicle weaving in and out of the lane.  Deputy Hanna stopped the vehicle which was being operated by 39 year old Jason A. Mueller of Niagara Falls.  Field sobriety tests were conducted and it was determined that Mueller was intoxicated. He was arrested for DWI and other traffic offenses.  Mueller refused a breath test and was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court at a later date.

Deputies Patrick McMahon and Gene Nati were dispatched to a citizen complaint of a vehicle loudly revving its' engine on Sawmill Road in the Town of Clarence. When Deputy McMahon arrived on the scene he discovered a car abandoned in the middle of Sawmill Road.  The car had substantial damage to it and there was a a fire hydrant lodged underneath the car.  Further investigation found that the car had been involved in an accident on Stage Road in the Town of Newstead in which it had left the roadway and struck the fire hydrant and some brush and then left the scene.  Deputy Nati, responding to the scene from a different direction, located a male walking down Sawmill Road who appeared to be intoxicated.  The male was identified as 47 year old Harold K. Frey Jr. of Clarence.  Mr. Frey admitted that he was the driver of the vehicle.   After conducting field sobriety tests, Mr. Frey was arrested for DWI and taken to the Sheriff's substation in Clarence where a breath test revealed his blood alcohol content to be .13%.  Frey was released on appearance tickets for a future court date.
