April 26, 2013- Sheriff Tim Howard reports that a 17 year old female was arrested early Friday morning, after the vehicle she was driving left the roadway, striking the front of a church, and then a garage next door, heavily damaging both. The driver then fled the scene on foot, but was apprehended a short distance away by Seneca Nation Marshalls. Dep. Jeff Hicks, of the Erie County Sheriff's North Collins sub-station, responded to the scene to investigate. The driver, a resident of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, appeared to be highly intoxicated, and was uncooperative. She was placed under arrest for D.W.I. and numerous traffic violations, including leaving the scene of a property damage accident. In addition, further investigation revealed that the 2005 KIA she was driving was stolen from a relative on Hawk Meadows Dr. on the reservation, prompting a charge of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, and Criminal Mischief (reckless), both class A misdemeanor penal law violations. After refusing to submit to a chemical test, she was taken before North Collins Judge Stevens for arraignment. She was released by the court on her own recognizance.
This was the 109th arrest of the year made for D.W.I. by the Erie County Sheriff's Office.
