Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard announces the arrest of an Elma resident on animal cruelty and unauthorized practice of a profession charges.

Erie County Sheriff’s Detective Christian Parisi working in conjunction with the Erie County District Attorney’s Office recently arrested one Eric D. Gray, age 43, of Bowen Road, Elma. He was charged with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals (NY Agriculture and Markets Law) and Unauthorized Practice of a Profession (NY Education Law) – both are Class E Felonies. Gray was arraigned in Elma Town Court and release on his own recognizance.

This case started when some local veterinarians and SPCA workers became suspicious about Mr. Gray dropping off maltreated and neglected pit bull canines at their offices. They subsequently notified authorities. A subsequent investigation revealed that Gray was acting in a veterinarian capacity and proscribing medicines without a license. Another pit bull canine was discovered in poor condition at his residence. The investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible.
