September 15, 2012- Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of a Collins resident for multiple charges after Sheriff’s Road Patrols stopped his motorcycle in Collins on Saturday night.
While on patrol in Collins, Deputy John Hanna observed a motorcycle on Rt. 75 in Collins being operated by Trevor D. Gernatt (21) without a headlight and without wearing a helmet. Deputy Hanna attempted to stop the motorcycle on North Division near Brown Road, when Gernatt fled on foot into the woods. After a short foot chase, Hanna apprehended him and took him into custody. Gernatt was arrested and charged with D Felony DWI (two prior convictions for DWI within ten years), Felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation (revoked drivers license for DWI convictions), Resisting Arrest, Obstruction 2nd, and multiple traffic infractions. Gernatt refused to submit to a breath test to determine his blood alcohol content. He was processed at the North Collins Substation and transported to the Holding Center to await arraignment on his charges.
