Augst 22, 2012- Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of an East Amherst man for Felony DWI in violation of Leandra’s Law after a traffic stop in Clarence by Sheriff’s Road Patrols on Tuesday evening.
While on patrol in Clarence, Deputy Gene Nati stopped a vehicle driven by Christopher J. Stercula, 46, of East Amherst for failure to maintain his lane. The Deputy noted while speaking with Stercula that he appeared to be intoxicated by alcohol. After his investigation, Deputy Nati arrested Stercula and charged him with Felony Aggravated DWI (Leandra’s Law – driving drunk with a person 15 years or younger in the vehicle), Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and multiple traffic infractions. A breath test administered by Deputy Brandon Stott revealed Mr. Stercula’s blood alcohol content to be .19%, over twice the legal limit, while he had a 13 year-old passenger in the vehicle. The defendant was released on an appearance ticket returnable to Clarence Town Court.
