August 1, 2012- Sheriff Tim Howard is announcing the arrest of two Buffalo men for felony marijuana charges following a traffic stop and foot chase by Erie County Sheriff's and Buffalo Pd Strike Force Units.
Erie County Sheriff's Strike Force Deputies Mike Hoock and John Szczepanski stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Hagen St. and Kerns St. for a traffic violation. As the Deputies exited the patrol car, the passenger in the stopped vehicle, 35 y/o Lloyd J. Evans of Buffalo, grabbed a duffel bag from the vehicle, bailed out, and began running down Hagen St. with Deputy Hoock in pursuit. The driver, 27 y/o Keynone D. Cole of Buffalo, attempted to make a U-turn and flee, but Deputy Szczepanski was able to take him into custody at that location. Deputy Hoock continued his pursuit of Evans, who hopped fences and was then taken into custody by Buffalo Police in the backyard of a Newburgh St. address, along with his duffel bag, and a knife he had in his possession. The duffel bag contained two and a half pounds of marijuana.
Evans was arrested and charged with Felony Marijuana Possession, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
Cole was also arrested and charged with Felony Marijuana Possession, Resisting, Obstructing and traffic violations including driving with a suspended license.
The vehicle was impounded and both subjects taken to the Erie County Holding Center and held pending arraignment in the City of Buffalo Court.
