Grand Island- March 12, 2012- Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard is announcing the arrest of the person allegedly responsible for the 18 month long graffiti spree/problem on Grand  Island in which both public and private buildings and properties were defaced totaling between 20- 30 thousand dollars in damage.    Detective Brian O’Hara  along with Deputies Brad Girdler and  Jason Clark arrested 20 year old Matthew Kasprzycki  of Kirkwood Drive,  Grand Island and charged him with criminal mischief in the third degree- E- felony and making graffiti- an A misdemeanor. 


The suspect has a felony hearing on the charges set for March  14, 2012 @ 5:30 p.m. in Grand Island Town Court.   On February 29, 2012, Kasprzycki admitted to Detective O’Hara that he was responsible for the bulk of the graffiti  on the Island.  He was taken into custody that evening and spent the night in the Holding Center until his $250.00 bail was posted the next day.   Additional charges are pending.

 Among the buildings, or areas that Kasprzycki  is accused of defacing  include, the Channel 29 building on Whitehaven Road;  the pedestrian overpass over Beaver Island Parkway and both the North and South Grand Island bridges.   Kasprzycki’s  “tag” is the fictitious character Jaka. -30-
