MULTIPLE DWI ARRESTS IN CITY OF BUFFALO


May 1,2013-Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard reports that the Erie County Sheriff's Office made three DWI arrests overnight.  These three arrests are the 113th, 114th and 115th DWI arrests for the Erie County Sheriff's Office in 2013.

 In the first incident, Deputy Simon Biegasiewicz and Detective Emily Nelson, while working at a roadside check on the Strike Force Detail in the City of Buffalo, found 52 yr. old Artis Washington of the City of Buffalo to be operating a vehicle in an intoxicated state.  Mr. Washington was taken into custody and offered a chemical breath test.  Mr. Washington refused the chemical test and was arrested for felony driving while intoxicated.  It was discovered that Mr. Washington had a prior conviction of driving while intoxicated in June of 2009.  Mr. Washington was taken to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of a $500 bail or arraignment in the City of Buffalo Court.

 Deputies Justin Bauer and Daniel Harris observed a vehicle, operated by 43 yr. old  Mark Stetter of the City of Buffalo, with loud exhaust and conducted a traffic stop.  Mr. Stetter was not wearing a seatbelt and was found to be intoxicated.  After failing standardized field sobriety tests, Mr. Stetter was taken into custody.  Mr. Stetter was charged with driving while intoxicated and several other vehicle and traffic charges.  Mr. Stetter was released to a third party on uniform traffic tickets returnable to the City of Buffalo Court at a later date.

 Deputy Simon Biegasiewicz and Detective Nelson conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle, operated by 40 yr. old Lamar Fields of the City of Buffalo, fail to properly signal and follow another vehicle too close.  Mr. Fields was found to be intoxicated and taken into custody.  Mr. Fields refused to submit to a chemical breath test and was charged with driving while intoxicated and several other vehicle and traffic charges.  Mr. Fields was released to a third party on uniform traffic tickets returnable to the City of Buffalo Court at a later date.
