NORTH COLLINS MAN ARRESTED FOR DWI- HAD MORE THAN TWICE THE LEGAL LIMIT

Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard reports that a 46 yr old North Collins man was arrested for DWI after he was involved in a property damage hit and run motor vehicle accident.  A off duty North Collins police officer was traveling on Rte 75 in North Collins when a pick up truck crossed into his lane and nearly struck his vehicle head on.  The officer took evasive action but his vehicle was sideswiped by the oncoming pickup.  The officer contacted the Sheriff's office and followed the pickup to Genesee Rd where it eventually stopped on the side of the road. Shortly after, Deputies from the Sheriff's Patrol division arrived on location.  During the course of the accident investigation Thomas R. Ptak failed several field sobriety tests and  was arrested for DWI.  He was taken to the North Collins substation where he submitted to a breath test to determine his blood alcohol concentration.  The results of the test was a .21% BAC which is more than twice the limit of .08% BAC.  Due to the high BAC Mr. Ptak was charged with Aaggravated DWI. He was also charged with Failure to Keep Right and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident.  He was released on Appearance Tickets to the custody of his parents. This was the 145th arrest this year for DWI by the Sheriff's office
