Sheriff Timothy B Howard reports the DWI arrest of a North Tonawanda man after he was discovered asleep behind the wheel at an intersection in Grand Island.
Erie County Sheriff's Deputy Robert Galbraith was on patrol on Webb Rd. in the Town of Grand Island around midnight Saturday night when he approached the intersection with Baseline Rd. and found a vehicle stopped with the driver asleep behind the wheel. Upon further investigation and field sobriety tests, Deputy Galbraith found the driver, 42 year old William H. Grosskopf of Nash Rd. in North Tonawanda to be intoxicated. Grosskopf was arrested and charged with DWI.
Grosskopf submitted to a chemical breath test which resulted in a .11% BAC. Grosskopf's vehicle was towed from the scene and he was later released to a third party on appearance tickets for Grand Island Town Court at a later date.
This was the 64th DWI by the Erie County Sheriff's Road Patrol this year.
