June 26, 2013- Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports that a parked vehicle was struck on York St. after another vehicle fled from a road checkpoint being held on Fifteenth St. in the City of Buffalo. This checkpoint was set up by the City of Buffalo P.D. and the Erie Co. Sheriff’s Office Strike Force Deputies.
Erie County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Stott and Daniel Milbrandt attempted to pull over the vehicle in question, when they observed the occupants were not properly restrained by their seatbelts. Instead of pulling over, the vehicle left the area and turned onto York St. where it struck a parked vehicle. Deputies Stott and Milbrandt entered their patrol vehicle and followed the vehicle. When the patrol vehicle turned onto York St., the deputies observed that the vehicle in question had struck a parked vehicle and the occupants had abandoned the vehicle and left the area. The vehicle was discovered to have been be rented and upon further investigation, patrol was able to identify the subjects who occupied the vehicle at the time of the accident. The subjects, 32 yr. old Vernon Jefferson and 35 yr. old Harshaun Jefferson, were located by the City of Buffalo P.D. and turned over the the Erie Co. Sheriff’s Office.
At this time, both subjects were remanded to the Erie Co. Holding Center pending arraignment. Both subjects were charged w/ Resisting Arrest and Obstruction. Mr. Vernon Jefferson was charged w/ a multitude of vehicle and traffic charges including Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Only Accident, Unlawfully Fleeing the Police in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Not Wearing a Seatbelt and Reckless Endangerment.
