Anonymous Citizen’s Tip into Drug Activity Initiated Investigation
Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of a 29-year-old Buffalo man following the execution of two search warrants on March 13 in the City of Buffalo.
The investigation started after an anonymous tip was received from a concerned citizen back in October 2018. The tip described drug activity around a Howard Street address. The information led the Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit and the Buffalo Police Narcotics Unit to investigate the reported drug activity.
On March 13, just before 6:00 P.M. officers stopped Sidney Mellerson near William and Newell streets after he left his residence and executed the first of two search warrants. During that search, more than a half ounce of crack cocaine was discovered in the subject’s pants pocket.
Deputies and Detectives proceeded to the subject’s residence and executed a second search warrant signed by Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi and recovered approximately $24,000.00 in drug proceeds.
Mellerson is charged with felony counts of criminal possession of a narcotic with intent to sell and criminal possession of a narcotic. The defendant is being held at the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in Buffalo City Court.
Sidney Mellerson is on New York State parole from a felony gun possession conviction. Mellerson’s parole officer was notified about the arrest.
