Narcotic Impaired Driver Charged After Crash
Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Deputies Flowers, Jones, and Simmeth responded to a single vehicle crash on Route 219 Extension at West Main Street in the Village of Springville Tuesday around 5:15 P.M.
During their investigation, the Deputies observed signs of intoxication and impairment and transported Scott Weaver, 45 of Springville, to the Springville Substation. Deputies administered field sobriety tests and had Deputy Biegasiewicz, a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), evaluate the subject.
The DRE determined Weaver was impaired by narcotics and Deputies charged him with DWI-Drugs and four vehicle and traffic violations. Weaver was released to a sober third party after being issued tickets.
The Erie County Sheriff’s Office has three Drug Recognition Experts assigned to the Road Patrol. The Sheriff’s DREs assist Deputies and area police departments investigate impaired driving incidents.
Between April 5, 2016, and April 5, 2017, the Erie County Sheriff’s DREs have responded to 189 calls throughout Erie County and have arrested thirty-four drivers for DWI-Drugs.
