Deputies Recover Stolen Handgun during Traffic Stop

Unlicensed and Wanted Driver and Two Passengers Charged

 

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Deputy Zamorek stopped a vehicle for vehicle and traffic violations at South Park and Smith streets at 1:49 A.M. Tuesday morning in Buffalo.  When Deputy Zamorek approached the vehicle, he detected the odor of marijuana and observed the front and rear passengers with open alcoholic containers.

 

Deputies Zamorek and Bauer conducted a search of the vehicle discovered a loaded .380 caliber handgun.  Their investigation determined the gun was reported stolen from Clarence in 2015.  They also discovered the operator’s license was suspended, and he had an outstanding warrant from the Town of Cheektowaga.

 

Tyree Sommerville, 43, of Buffalo was arrested and charged with two felonies for criminal possession of a loaded firearm and criminal possession of a stolen firearm as well as a misdemeanor count of aggravated unlicensed operation and two vehicle and traffic infractions.

 

The passengers, Antonio Henley, 24, of Tonawanda and Devante Henley, 24, of Buffalo were arrested and charged with felonies for criminal possession of a loaded firearm, criminal possession of a stolen firearm, and drinking alcohol in a vehicle.

 

The three defendants are remanded to the Erie County Holding Center pending their arraignment.

 

The Town of Cheektowaga was notified of Sommerville’s arrest.
