Driver Admits to Consuming Alcohol
Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Deputy Zamorek responded to a two-vehicle crash at Clinton and Girdle Roads in Elma Monday night.
A vehicle operated by 51-year-old Donald Waldraff, Jr. of Warsaw, New York crashed into a vehicle at the intersection around 10:30 P.M.; the victim had the right of way, which was confirmed by witnesses. While speaking with the Waldraff, Deputy Zamorek detected the strong odor of alcohol and detected signs of impairment in the subject.
After admitting to consuming alcoholic beverages, Waldraff failed multiple field sobriety tests and registered a BAC level more than twice the legal limit. Waldraff was subsequently arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI – BAC higher than .18% and a vehicle and a traffic law violation.
The defendant was released to a sober third party with tickets.
