Multiple Accident Investigations resulted in DWI Arrests

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Deputies made eight arrests during the STOP-DWI funded campaign. 

May 26, 3:52 A.M., City of Buffalo – Deputies Biegasiewicz and Soluri arrested Bram Whitney, 38 of Williamsville, following a traffic stop on Route 33 near Utica Street.  Whitney is charged with speeding (approximately 30 mph over the posted limit), failure to maintain lane, and DWI.  The defendant was released on an appearance ticket for the City of Buffalo.

May 27, 1:28 A.M., Village of Springville – Deputy Dunn conducted a traffic stop on East Main Street near Vaughn after observing vehicle and traffic violations for a vehicle operated by Kenneth Bigelow.  Bigelow, 40 of Ashford, displayed signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests.  Following the tests, the subject was arrested and charged with DWI, failure to keep right and drinking alcohol in a vehicle on the highway.  The defendant was released on an appearance ticket for the Village of Springville Court.

May 27, 4:11 A.M., Town of Clarence – Sergeant Kaderli responded to Cobblestone Drive for a vehicle that drove across two lawns.  The sergeant’s investigation discovered that Matthew Schiavone, 25 of Clarence, was involved in an earlier hit and run accident that occurred on Main Street in Clarence where he sheared off a fire hydrant.  Schiavone failed the administered field sobriety tests and was arrested.  He is charged with aggravated DWI, failure to keep right, and leaving the scene of an accident.  He was later released to a third party.

May 27, 4:12 P.M., Town of Brant – Jonathan Guy, 57 of Brant was arrested following an ATV hit and run investigation by Deputy Mosier.  The incident occurred on Versailles Plank Road on the Seneca Nation Territory.  When the Deputy located the subject, Guy refused to perform field sobriety tests and he was arrested.  The subject is charged with DWI, a felony count of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating an unregistered ATV, unlawful operation on public highways, no helmet, the uninsured operation of an ATV, leaving the scene of an accident, and unlicensed operation.  Guy is held at the Erie County Holding Center on $10,000.00 bail.

Guy’s license is revoked.

May 27, 11:13 P.M., Town of Brant – Deputy McClelland was dispatched to an accident on Route 438.  When the Deputy arrived the Seneca Nation Marshals had Robert Lyle, 33 of Irvington, detained.  The Marshals explained to Deputy McClelland they observed the subject operating a vehicle in a reckless manner, drove through a front yard, struck a parked vehicle and flee the scene.  Lyle failed field sobriety tests and was arrested.  The subsequent search of his vehicle discovered a bag of marijuana and a glass pipe. Lyle is charged with DWI, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, speeding, and marijuana possession.  The defendant was later released.

May 28, 4:42 A.M., Town of Boston – Brianna Koerner, 19 of Hamburg, was arrested by Deputy Reed following an investigation of an injury accident on Hickory Meadows Road.  Deputy Reed charged Koerner with DWI, operating a vehicle after consuming alcohol, speeding, and unsafe lane change.  Koerner was released to her father following processing. 

May 28, 10:49 P.M., Town of Marilla – Deputy Lundberg arrested and charged David Wisniewski, 39 of Marilla, with DWI, failure to keep right and speeding following an investigation of a motorcycle crash at Wish Circle and Hemstreet roads.

The operator was transported to Erie County Medical Center by Jamison Road Fire Company for the treatment of head, arm and leg injuries.

May 29, 12:16 A.M., Town of Boston – While traveling on Boston State Road, Deputy Reed observed a vehicle off the roadway and resting in a ditch.  When he approached the vehicle, he observed a female operator and detected the strong odor of alcohol.  Renae Klein, 35 of Boston, failed standard field sobriety tests and was arrested for DWI.  While securing the vehicle, the Deputy discovered multiple open alcoholic beverage containers on the rear seat and added the charge of drinking alcohol in a vehicle on a highway as well as infractions for refusing to take a breath test, unsafe lane change, and an illegal U-turn.  She was released following processing.

May 29, 11:05 P.M., City of Buffalo – Deputy Biegasiewicz stopped a vehicle operated by Anthony Perry, 53 of Georgia, for vehicle and traffic violations.  The Deputy’s investigation determined Perry was intoxicated and charged the subject with Aggravated DWI, and two traffic violation.   Perry was released to a sober third party following processing.

Erie County STOP-DWI Program provided funding for enhanced DWI patrols.
