Subject Stole another Officer’s Magazine Pouch
Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard announced today the termination and arrest of former employee Jeremiah Nolan, Jr., 50, of Cheektowaga.
On May 29, a New York State Corrections Officer discovered the magazine pouch for his duty belt was missing from the security control room at the Erie County Medical Center detention area.
Sheriff’s representatives from the Jail Management Division and Detectives reviewed security footage of the area and observed Nolan remove the duty belt from a drawer, take the magazine pouch from the belt and return the belt to the drawer. On June 2, the magazine pouch was located and was returned to the corrections officer of June 4.
The Sheriff’s Office met with members of Erie County District Attorney John Flynn’s Office, and subsequently, Nolan was arrested and charged with Petit Larceny, a class-A misdemeanor, on June 26.
The Sheriff’s Office placed the individual on unpaid administrative leave and on June 22, terminated the subject’s employment citing the incident, violation of the Sheriff’s rules of conduct, and subsequent arrest.
Sheriff Howard stated, “I cannot understand how a sworn officer could take another officer’s lifeline – the magazines for his duty gun. It was evident that his misconduct warranted his termination.”
Nolan was issued appearance ticket returnable to Buffalo City Court.
