Operator Struck a Utility Pole, Breaking it in Half

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Deputies arrested a 38-year-old Alden female following a hit and run crash, which occurred shortly after midnight on October 18.

Erie County Sheriff’s dispatch received calls at 12:15 A.M. about a vehicle striking a utility pole at Three Rod and Broadway.  Callers provided a description of the vehicle and direction of travel and Deputies conducted a search.

About twenty-five minutes later, Deputies located the vehicle at a South Lawn Court address in Alden.  Deputies administered standard field sobriety and breath tests on Tara Schafer.  The subject failed multiple field tests and registered a BAC level more than twice the legal limit.  Schafer was arrested and charged with DWI, aggravated DWI, speeding, leaving the scene of a crash and unsafe lane change.

Schafer was released to a sober third party with appearance tickets for Alden court.
