Mounted for Meals Trots Out for the 16th Year of Helping the Community

Buffalo, NY – Sheriff Timothy B. Howard announces this year’s Easter Mounted for Meals food and fund drive will take place at the Broadway Market, Thursday, April 13 from 10 A.M until 1 P.M.

Over the past sixteen years, members of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Reserve Unit have donated their time to collect food and money for the Food Bank of WNY to aid local families who find they need some assistance.  The horses will bring their riders with them to the Broadway Market where they will collect both perishable and nonperishable food items as well as ask for donations for the “Loot in the Boot.”

The donations collected on Thursday will help feed local families and especially the people Sister Mary Johnice Rzadkiewicz’s Response to Love Center serve.

Response to Love Center is one of the Food Bank’s 329 member agencies and is located at 130 Kosciuszko St., Buffalo, NY 14212

Generally, the food drive accepts 1000 pounds of food and $1000.00 for the Food Bank of WNY.  Since its inception, the Mounted for Meals campaign has collected nearly eight tons of food and approximately $15,000 in donations.

All donations are accepted, and items needed the most are

● Frozen turkeys or hams

● Canned vegetables

● Canned soups

● Pasta

● Bags or boxes of rice
