Damude Resisted Arrest after Vehicle Located in Holland

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Deputies Grube and Bartholomew responded to an Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle incident on March 29, in the Town of Colden at 5:08 P.M.   The complaint stated that Ryan Damude, 26, of Holland took the vehicle without permission after it was serviced at a repair shop.

At 5:20 P.M. Deputies Mulhern and Thurston responded to a Canada Street address in the Town of Holland after the complainant, Donna Damude, reported her television was stolen.

At 11:24 P.M., over six hours from the vehicle call, Deputies Thurston and Mulhern located the missing vehicle along Olean Road in Holland on the shoulder of the road without a front left tire.  The vehicle matched the description of the one in the earlier incident and the Deputies initiated a traffic stop.  As the Deputies approached the vehicle, the individual in the driver’s seat exited the vehicle and refused police commands to keep his hands out of his pockets.  As the Deputies attempted to detain the subject, he resisted the Deputies.  After being placed in handcuffs, the subject tried to pull away from the Deputies and at that time the subject was taken to the ground and a search was performed.  The Deputies search discovered a packet of crack cocaine and a crack pipe laced with residue.

The subject was identified as Ryan Damude, and he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal use of drug paraphernalia, obstruction of governmental administration, and aggravated unlicensed operation.  Damude’s license was suspended due to a DWI arrest in January when he ran from Deputies and hid in a baby’s bedroom.

Damude is also charged with petit larceny related to the stolen television incident; the television was not recovered.

The defendant is at the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in Holland Town Court.

The Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation into the vehicle and larceny incidents.
