Rath Patrol Deputies and Sheriff’s Bomb Squad Responded

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Rath Patrol Deputies responded to reports of a male running along Pearl Street behind the Rath Building around 11:30 A.M. Monday and dropping a bag.  The subject dropped the bag on the sidewalk in the area of the DMV Office and continued running.  The Erie County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad was dispatched, and Deputies evacuated the DMV and surrounding area and secured the area.

The Sheriff’s Office discovered the backpack was stolen from inside the Rath Building and returned to the owner; the area was deemed clear just after 1 P.M.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the larceny.
