Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard announced the March 24 arrests of 46-year-old Hugh Smith and 51-year-old David Smercak for felony methamphetamine possession charges.
At approximately 4:25 A.M., Deputies initiated a traffic stop for vehicle and traffic violations along North Cascade Drive in the Village of Springville. When a Deputy approached the vehicle, they observed an open alcohol container. During the subsequent search, Deputies discovered marijuana and a marijuana pipe, a meth pipe, a plastic bag and a clear cylinder of crystal methamphetamine weighing approximately 24-grams, a digital scale with white powdery residue, and several loose pills.
Smercak, of Colden, is charged with a Class-A felony of criminal possession of a stimulant, and three misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Smith, of Boston, is charged with a Class-A felony of criminal possession of a stimulant, and three misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, a violation for unlawful possession of marijuana, and drinking alcohol in a vehicle on the highway.
Both defendants were taken to the Erie County Holding Center pending their arraignment.
