The following is an update of three incidents from this past weekend.

 

Fatal ATV Crash, August 3, 7:14 P.M., Town of Holland – Deputies, and the ATV Unit responded to an ATV crash near East Holland and Wilkens roads.  The operator of a side-by-side ATV lost control and struck a tree.  The passenger, 48-year-old William Stroka of Holland, was transported to Erie County Medical Center for leg and internal injuries.  The Sheriff’s Office was notified later that Stroka had succumbed to his injuries.  The incident remains under investigation.   

Missing Boater/BWI, August 5, 3:57 A.M. – The Marine Unit responded to calls about boater in distress.  Reports indicated the vessel was overheating and was taking on water near the outer breakwall.  One communication indicated the operator was thinking about exiting the sinking vehicle and climbing onto the breakwall.  At 5:50 A.M. Deputies Coulombe, Krypel, and Rogers located the vessel operator unresponsive on the northern breakwall nearest to the inlet to the Erie Basin Marina. 

Deputies climbed onto the breakwall with their medical kit and approached the individual.  The male woke up and began moving.  The Deputies transported 33-year-old Jason Mesler of Buffalo to shore and following their investigation, Mesler was arrested and charged with BWI. 

The boat had sustained significant damage and sank near the outer breakwall. 

Fatal Route 219 Crash, August 5, 12:31 P.M., Town of Concord – Deputies and the Sheriff’s Crash Investigation Unit were dispatched to Route 219 near Genesee Road for reports of a tanker truck leaving the roadway and crashing into trees. 

When Deputies and EMS personnel arrived, the driver, 51-year-old Peter Cizdziel of Springville, was deceased.  The crash unit is investigating the incident.
